I don't give a shit about football.
I give a shit about my football team playing in European competitions enabling me and my mates to visit places we never would otherwise and have a laugh for three days. We'll never play in Europe again in my lifetime. Devastated isn't the word.

why not just book a holiday

If you can get two thousand people (minimum)
to all book a holiday in the same far flung city on a Tuesday, you're a greater person than I am.

But why do you need two thousand other people?
Surely just you and your mates could stick a pin in a map and say 'let's go there'!
Unless you like travelling with feeble-minded thugs who feel the need to have the rest of their tribe around them?

The idea that Fulham is a club full of 'feeble-minded' thugs is quite hilarious.
We're the only club in the country that has a 'neutral' section because our fans are so placid.

OK
'Thugs' may have been harsh (I stand by the 'feeble minded' though). However, the point still stands - why do you feel the need to have two thousand 'others' with you?

It's hard to understand or even explain.
But when you see tons of people you recognise from back home on foreign soil, it's just an amazing feeling. And nothing with my group of mates would ever get organised if there wasn't a game on. The football is the reason people travel over, but it's (by far) the least important aspect of the trip.

We'll have to agree to disagree
I've never felt the 'tribal' thing and never understood the whole football thing. If me and my mates want to go somewhere - we just go! On more than one occasion it really has been 'stick a pin in the map and go to the nearest city to the hole' and jolly good times were had.
(, Wed 14 Dec 2011, 23:11, Reply)
I'd do that, happily.
It's the fact that the others wouldn't.
