I donno if this is a rumour, but I remember thinking as a kid that she can walk into any shop and get anything and they're not allowed to charge her.
I think this was 'cus in my head, 'cus she was the queen, she owned everything... but it might be real.

That rings a bell, there was this old lady in North Cyprus, an ex-pat brit, who we knicknamed The Queen, 'cus she never carried money about.
It's 'cus she paid for everything at the end of the month, and it was generally accepted by anyone who wanted to cator for the expat comunitie.
