To quote my friend "I wish politicians today would be more like her, stick up for their principles, whatever they believe, its like we've gone back to the days of the wet toff concencus. She wasn't posh and she came from a working class backround. "

This mate does not exist.,
You're using him to make us love Thatcher, but nobody with any decency and still in possession of their memory can find it in their heart to give a fuck.
(, Tue 17 Jan 2012, 22:39, Reply)
And we would have to accept the quite frankly ridiculous assertion that freefair has friends.

(, Tue 17 Jan 2012, 22:41, Reply)
This point must also be considered.

(, Tue 17 Jan 2012, 22:42, Reply)
Its because with the exception of my Labour supporting friend, I don't talk politics with anyone else my age.

(, Tue 17 Jan 2012, 22:46, Reply)
We'd prefer it if you didn't discuss it with us.

(, Tue 17 Jan 2012, 22:47, Reply)
Could you promise to be nice to me then?
And I won't talk about it on here.
(, Tue 17 Jan 2012, 23:01, Reply)
Nope.

(, Tue 17 Jan 2012, 23:04, Reply)
Tony Blair very much stood up for what he believed in.
Balls of steel, that man. I have a lot of admiration for him. He was a good leader as well as having the nuts to make seriously unpopular decisions. Just that he fucked up massively with Iraq, but apart from that, he did a lot of good.

And never launched all out class war and destroyed communities like Thatcher did.
(, Tue 17 Jan 2012, 22:40, Reply)
I can't stand him either,
Besides, the first load of tuition fees were ok'd under Labour. He's a fuck-you-Jack cunt and all.
He's not an eeeeevil bitch like her though.
(, Tue 17 Jan 2012, 22:42, Reply)
Um, I was being serious.

(, Tue 17 Jan 2012, 22:43, Reply)
I know.
I think he betrayed voters like my Grandad.
Her, on the other hand, well, she did exactly what she was supposed to do.
If you're a selfish unfeeling cunt who has two houses, 'family money' and a belief that every vulnerable/poor/unfortunate person deserves their lot in life, then she looked after you good and proper and made sure the needy were suitably punished for their existence.
(, Tue 17 Jan 2012, 22:46, Reply)
Sorry, I forgot 14.1 Million people were exactly like this "family money" person described.
That's how may voted Tory in 92 ( and 13.8 Million in 87), a number that still stands as a record for any party.
That would include my mother, who was brought up in a state of absolute (yes ,not just relative) poverty in the 60's. She nearly died several times through out her childhood due to having no heating in her council house. She often starved and never got any Christmas presents and new clothes. She failed her 11+ and stared work at 14. They never had a TV, just a wireless+ small record player.
Yeah, she was fucking loaded!
When Thatcher came along, she brought a house, got a car, went on foreign holidays, worked hard, and never struggled again.
Similar for my dad, plus he was an immigrant who barely spoke any English.
(, Tue 17 Jan 2012, 22:51, Reply)
Major was elected in 92.
Not Thatcher.

And if your mum was Northern and voted Tory then she was an idiot.
(, Tue 17 Jan 2012, 22:53, Reply)
West Midland.

(, Tue 17 Jan 2012, 22:54, Reply)
Massive

(, Tue 17 Jan 2012, 22:55, Reply)
Still an idiot.

(, Tue 17 Jan 2012, 22:58, Reply)
I take it she's now a BNP voter.

(, Tue 17 Jan 2012, 23:06, Reply)
Just doing her bit

(, Tue 17 Jan 2012, 23:07, Reply)
Stands to reason.
But she bought a council house. That makes her posh.
(, Tue 17 Jan 2012, 23:15, Reply)
yeah, not like that riff-raff next door

(, Tue 17 Jan 2012, 23:16, Reply)
Yeah, those povvoes not earning enough to rent privately. WHY DO YOU THINK THEY LIVE IN A COUNCIL HOUSE?
Anyway, only scum live in slums.

100% true.
(, Tue 17 Jan 2012, 23:20, Reply)
And get kennel cough

(, Tue 17 Jan 2012, 23:23, Reply)
And fleas.

(, Tue 17 Jan 2012, 23:23, Reply)
Haha shut up you knob.
Tits like your mother voting for Thatcher because they think it will make them all 'posh', and so they can buy the shitty council house they nearly died in, need shooting.
(, Tue 17 Jan 2012, 22:54, Reply)
This.
100% this.

Thatcher destroyed northern, Welsh, midland and Scottish communities with her slash and burn economic policies. If your mum voted Tory then she supported that, and she supported exactly the same kind of conditions she was raised in.

Not you Roota. Titboy up there.
(, Tue 17 Jan 2012, 22:57, Reply)
I hear ya.
Haha Titboy.
(, Tue 17 Jan 2012, 23:00, Reply)
Blaming Thatcher for the decline of industry is like blaming a nurse for a death
cause she switched off life support. Everything had been done to save it beforehand.
(, Tue 17 Jan 2012, 23:01, Reply)
No it hadn't.
What the fuck are you talking about?
(, Tue 17 Jan 2012, 23:03, Reply)

(, Tue 17 Jan 2012, 23:09, Reply)
So your story is that your mum happened to reach her early twenties or so in 1979?
Fascinating political insight there.

Thanks.
(, Tue 17 Jan 2012, 23:02, Reply)
I wish she'd died of the cough

(, Tue 17 Jan 2012, 23:05, Reply)
Blimey.
I wish I'd got a job and worked when I was in my early twenties, just like every fucker else.

Correlation =/= causation, as titboy should know.

I have to assume that if the nation had carried on as it was.
Her living standards would have been pretty poor.
(, Tue 17 Jan 2012, 23:06, Reply)
You have a lot of experience in the UK until 1978?

No, he was just a terribly sincere nice guy (i.e. a censorious, dictatorial madman) and a Christian fundamentalist.

(, Tue 17 Jan 2012, 22:45, Reply)
And he brought in the minimum wage, record investment in the NHS and led Labour to victory three times.
And fucked up re. tuition fees and Iraq. Nowhere near as bad as Thatcher.
(, Tue 17 Jan 2012, 22:47, Reply)
Also locked the nation into an cycle of wasteful, endless and absolutely pointless wars,
and turned the education system into a bureaucratic exercise where pupils take exams for exams' sake rather than receiving a useful education; a system where privileged pupils can be coached by private tutors into getting straight A*s all the way though and still come out knowing nothing and being about as useful as a glass hammer.

I agree with your point about him not being as bad as Thatcher, but he's got a bloody long charge sheet as far as I'm concerned.
(, Tue 17 Jan 2012, 23:04, Reply)
But he appeared on the cover of NME.

(, Tue 17 Jan 2012, 23:07, Reply)
I won't disagree with you there, I had no beef with Mr Blair.
He was as much of a poshboy as Cameron though.
Blair was essentially a pragmatic Tory. It's not his personal fault we're in a mess.
(, Tue 17 Jan 2012, 22:44, Reply)
David Cameron never appeared on the cover of NME though, did he?
SO THERE!
