I really want to go and live in Austin one day
but I'd have trouble with the rest of the United States.

I do love Rome dearly, but could never live there due to the crippling bureaucracy and corruption in daily life.

And the pollution in Rome is awful. Unbearable.

Plus their public transport is terrible
and you couldn't pay me to drive there. Apart from that, stunning architecture, history leaking from every corner, food to die for and friendly people.

I've never been to Rome but reckon I'd like the sights.
Nearly went last year but opted for Venice.

Are the restaurants good away from the town centre? I hate getting ripped off.

You would
I've been 7 times and only done the big sights twice. There's just so much to do and it's so close together.

You can find excellent restaurants just about anywhere. The tourist ones are generally clustered around the sights and really obvious. I would gladly dig out where I went last time - part of the charm is finding shut in delis and cafes that look like they haven't seen the light of day but serve food comparable to Selfridges etc but for pittance. *wistfulRomefoodsigh*

Man, that sounds spot on.

Plus there's the beer
wine, cheap cigarettes, lovely women and balmy weather.

Remind me nearer the time that you go - I know some locals who can recommend some good non tourist places.
