but I'd have trouble with the rest of the United States.
I do love Rome dearly, but could never live there due to the crippling bureaucracy and corruption in daily life.

and you couldn't pay me to drive there. Apart from that, stunning architecture, history leaking from every corner, food to die for and friendly people.

Nearly went last year but opted for Venice.
Are the restaurants good away from the town centre? I hate getting ripped off.

I've been 7 times and only done the big sights twice. There's just so much to do and it's so close together.
You can find excellent restaurants just about anywhere. The tourist ones are generally clustered around the sights and really obvious. I would gladly dig out where I went last time - part of the charm is finding shut in delis and cafes that look like they haven't seen the light of day but serve food comparable to Selfridges etc but for pittance. *wistfulRomefoodsigh*
