I saw them a few years ago when I was driving down the A1 in Northumberland.Pulled into a layby and stood watching for about 15 minutes. Utterly spectacular.

This was in a stretch with no road lighting and no ambient light pollution so it was pretty intense.One of the most beautiful things I've ever seen.
