I feel your boiler misery.
When I lived in my little flat,i had a pre cambrian boiler with a pilot light that went out recreationally. Kept waking up to a freezing flat, and with no shower,i had to fill a bath with kettle water.

Well, we could switch it on for the duration of a quick shower,
but any more than that and the little glass I'd wedged under the pipe would over flow. Then the stopcock got all leaky because it didn't like getting fiddled with.
