Football isn't a game with values anymore, look at the number of players who clearly are scum. Ballotelli, Suarez, Young, most teams have at least one player many of the fans are ashamed of when they dive, foul or make the most of every contact.
However, we prefer to love them for the good that they do, compared to the bad.
Then again, did you see Young's dive today? Exceptional.

I saw a wonderful gif of it afterwards though, showing that the only contact was when Young stepped on the other guys foot.

It works in rugby because it's a game with a lot of stopping and starting anyway. That sort of thing would disrupt the flow of a decent game of football.
