AFAIK the same laws apply to any vehicle, bikes included
although people tend to turn a blind eye with bikes because they are less dangeous, but they are still classed as a vehicle.

I cycled drunk once, never again, fuck me.
(, Fri 27 Apr 2012, 21:33, 1 reply, 13 years ago)
How can they?
As above, you don't need a license for a bike.
(, Fri 27 Apr 2012, 21:35, Reply)
And?
doesn't stop then fining you of banging you up, speed limit's the same, although it rarely matters. A push bike is definitely legally a vehicle, trust me on that, the rest is a bit less certain, but generally if it's an offence in a car it's an offence on a bike
(, Fri 27 Apr 2012, 21:38, Reply)
What utter tosh.

(, Fri 27 Apr 2012, 21:39, Reply)
I've probably spent more time reading up on bicycle law than you
but feel free to do your own research, it's no odds to me what you believe.
(, Fri 27 Apr 2012, 21:43, Reply)
I'm just astounded that you can read.

(, Fri 27 Apr 2012, 21:49, Reply)
Play nicely now boys

(, Fri 27 Apr 2012, 21:54, Reply)
I'm with Dozer on this
If I got in my car ripped to the tits and got pulled over I'd get banned and I know that.

How do you ban a cyclist?
(, Fri 27 Apr 2012, 21:55, Reply)
I'm going to gaz Rory.
He'll know.
(, Fri 27 Apr 2012, 21:56, Reply)
He's watching already, I'm sure
He's nothing else to do.
(, Fri 27 Apr 2012, 21:57, Reply)
He's a solicitor.
I bet he has plenty to do.
(, Fri 27 Apr 2012, 21:59, Reply)
Is that really what he does?
He hints at running his business.
(, Fri 27 Apr 2012, 22:03, Reply)
I am saying no more.

Spends most of his time lurking on here and having a pop at people he think's he's clever than.
I don't mind him in small doses.

Break his collarbone?

(, Fri 27 Apr 2012, 21:56, Reply)
Screw you hippy

(, Fri 27 Apr 2012, 22:05, Reply)
You don't need a license to wander around on the pavements
but the police will still stop you if you're careening around being a pissed up hazard to yourself and/or others.
(, Fri 27 Apr 2012, 21:38, Reply)
Replying to both
Yes I'm sure the police can pull you and I expect it'd be drunk and disorderly, but surely can't be the same offence as drunk driving.
(, Fri 27 Apr 2012, 21:41, Reply)
not a lot of difference between the damage you can do, or even the speeds you can reach
on a bike and a small moped.

in any event, in the real world cyclists get away with a lot of shit that is flat out illegal because no one cares
(, Fri 27 Apr 2012, 21:45, Reply)
Are you telling us that you can get nicked for speeding on a pushbike?
Never mind the moped - you need a provisional for that.
(, Fri 27 Apr 2012, 21:51, Reply)
If you coud get one over 30 I would assume so, why not.
should be possible I could get my mountainbike up to 25, here: this summarises a lot of bike law, it's long so best to skip to the bit that interests: www.bikehub.co.uk/featured-articles/cycling-and-the-law/

Edit: OK, I was wrong on speeding.
(, Fri 27 Apr 2012, 21:56, Reply)
I found the drunk bit
You can be fined but it's NOT the same as drivers of motorised vehicles.
(, Fri 27 Apr 2012, 22:02, Reply)
Very difficult for a cyclist to kill someone by cycling at speed or while pissed.
Very different story for a car.

Then again, I can just imagine how different the literary landscape would be if JG Ballard had written Crash about bikes rather than cars.
(, Fri 27 Apr 2012, 22:04, Reply)
it has been done a couple of times
but it's not easy, takes skill.
(, Fri 27 Apr 2012, 22:06, Reply)
fair do's
but as a rule of thumb, if it's an offence on one it's an offece on the other and most of the highway code applies.
(, Fri 27 Apr 2012, 22:04, Reply)
The point I think I was getting at all along
Is that I have a driving license and if I break the law whilst driving I must accept the consequences of points.

If I break those laws whilst cycling, I don't have to produce my license because I don't need a license to ride a bike - nul points.
(, Fri 27 Apr 2012, 22:10, Reply)
well, yes
you can't loose what you don't have. but a lot of people seem to think this means that cyclists are immune from the law and aso don't belong on the roads, neitherof which is true.

looking back the ony thhing I've been wrong on is the speed limit, but i may have missed the point, in which case sorry.
(, Fri 27 Apr 2012, 22:14, Reply)
I failed my cycling proficiency test in junior school
But they didn't stop me from riding a bike.
(, Fri 27 Apr 2012, 22:15, Reply)
This has nothing to do with anything
I never even took one.
(, Fri 27 Apr 2012, 22:16, Reply)
That, CQ, is his point.

(, Fri 27 Apr 2012, 22:18, Reply)
I didn't indicate at a junction on a bike
I was dragged before the beak, given a dressing down, fined and then banned from riding a bike for 20 minutes.
(, Fri 27 Apr 2012, 22:17, Reply)
We don't have the problem with cyclists up here too much
And it's been a while since I lived on Maple Road as you'll remember, but there were a lot of cycling cunts in South London even then.
(, Fri 27 Apr 2012, 22:17, Reply)
Someone I know got quadraspazzed by a drunk cyclist.

(, Fri 27 Apr 2012, 22:18, Reply)
*sigh*
sadly most of them are cunts too. i'd like to se mandatory training or at least better enforcement of existing laws.
(, Fri 27 Apr 2012, 22:25, Reply)
Like I say - ain't a problem in the beautiful civilised North.

(, Fri 27 Apr 2012, 22:31, Reply)
you may, with the greatest possible respect, keep it.

(, Fri 27 Apr 2012, 22:32, Reply)
I'm not just going to keep it
I'm going to cherish it forever. Tried your life and hated it.
