There is a core of employees dedicated to the service, and a core of management dedicated to that.
There will always be a company prepared to work on lower margins. In our area my former employer and increasingly TLC of Bradford.

If I remember rightly, a few years ago their operations were pretty much limited to semi-rural South Yorkshire and a few services round Hemsworth/South Elmsall way.

Centrebus started out from Huddersfield and have been expanding since.
Great to work for as a menial, but not too good when you need to manage a quart into a pint pot. That's their model. I couldn't work with it but I learned a lot.

I still drive because I love it, but a casual driver - sounds daft but there's a lot of us about - won't work for less than £9 an hour.
That's possibly misleading - I'm a good driver with a good reputation. There are bad drivers working for ropey firms for less.
