alright?The first 30k of a redundancy payment is tax free. Any excess should be paid in to your pension so as to gain the tax relief.

I paid £5,400 tax, but only worked for 3 months of the last tax year.(

No, I got a letter at the time of the payment advising me to contact the tax office.I don't have an IFA.
