Savings are overratedI save a little bit each month, but I make overpayments on my mortgage which is far more useful.
If I want to pay for anything substantial, I stick it on a credit card and transfer the balance somewhere with 0%.

The usefullness of overpayments is entirely dependant on the rate of interest you have on your mortgageand whether or not you want the ready cash. It's not a given.

I have a endowment shortfall (ahem)so it's a bit of a necessity more than anything.
