I too have limited knowledge when it comes to boring technical details.
But isn't it the case that you couldn't restring a steel string guitar with nylon strings?
Wouldn't the tension be all wrong?
Certainly if you were to do it the other way around, the steel strings would pull the nylon string guitar apart.

I restrung two guitars which had nylon strings on them with steel ones
and they play like shit so I reckon you could well be right. Hence the desire to undo my excellent work.
