There are options other than just accepting it and massive over-reaction.
Exercising one of them is why we don't currently have the problems in Northern Ireland that we used to.

If you get too far into any analogy it breaks down
and I didn't bring up NI. I think my point that negotiation can bring peace when continued retaliation just keeps hostilities going still holds though.

this is a pragmatic point rather than an ideological one BTW.
