There are mistakes in this post.
Firstly, there is some music I like that I accept isn't very good, but there is no accounting for taste.
Secondly, as with all genres, there is good jazz and bad.
All the jazz that I love is unquestionably good and I can easily identify several different types.
You may not like it and that is fine, but you may not dismiss it as 'crap'.
Finally your numbers are wrong - you divide your third type into two, making a total of four.

Wonder if he's heard The Roots?

And if he's a big instruments snob how can he not like Giant Steps? As a piece of music it's incredible.

Diff'rent strokes for different folks, doze.
Some people just don't like jazz.
Hip hop can be difficult to relate to for some people, including me.
