There's a really good batman one, which barely has batman in it. It's about how one street kid ends up as one of Jokers henchmen. Worth a read.

Some of them are.
But I'm thinking of things like the Dark Phoenix storyline in Xmen and the Knightfall story when Bane breaks batmans back and the one when one of the Robins dies.
