You see what happens is that when they go on strike, the redundant pits miraculously fill up with coal.It's amazing really when you think about it.

Except their resolution to strike was in the event that mines were being closed for reasons other than them having run out of coal.If striking is the only weapon you have, then of course you are going to use it.
