It's a city managment computer game.
It's awesome. But EA ARE CUNTS SO I'VE DECIDED NOT TO BUY IT IN PROTEST!

Do you have to be online to play it? Or could I play it on a flight for example?

All other games in the series have been single player based
this one has a constant online connection which is a right cunt. because:
1: They didn't have enough servers up and running to let everyone who bought it play
2: They have removed features to get it to work better now, which means people haven't got what they initially wanted
3: The game will only work while EA keep paying for the servers to be running
4: You can't play it on a plane (unless you have wifi on the plane which is sort of coming in)
5: If your home wifi drops out, it'll kick you out of the game
6: Not one customer ever fucking asked for it, and told them repeatedly before they released it that it was a bad idea.

Oh and as soon as it's cracked everyone will just pirate it out of protest.
Even if they were going to buy the original, why bother when you can get a cracked version that is better and you can play on a plane train bus

Maybe I should version 4 rather than 5.
I assume it's 5 you're talking about?

The developers of a similar game called Tropico have put a massive discount on their game when they saw the problems.
I'd go for that.

I don't think a problem about the playability of a computer game
even counts enough to be classified as first-world.

Consumer rights are a serious problem.
For any of the numbered worlds.

How is this a consumer rights issue, you plonker?
You knew this would happen before you bought it. It's not a secret. "shit thing turns out to be shit" is not exactly news.

Because software companies sell you a product or a service, however they refuse to even entertain the possibility of a refund if they don't deliver what was advertised.

They have delivered what was advertised.
You knew about the server thing in advance.

The fact the servers weren't working when they said they'd have enough and extra capacity on release day.
And the fact they've now removed at least three "advertised on the box" features to stop their servers crashing all the time means they should give people the option for their money back.
But because it's a software company and they make everyone click that they've read a 50 page document before they can use it then they get away with it.

... like every other industry with a "terms and conditions" clause?

Not wishing to get dragged into the (tedious) debate,
but you don't sign up to any terms and conditions when you buy a pint of milk at the shop down the road.
