I've been fairly lucky with work related fails though the one that everyone here remembers was when Dan had some DDR RAMand a laptop that required DDR2 RAM. He noted they had the same number of pins but the notch was in a different place. So he did what any knowledgeable IT tech would do and cut a new notch in it with a hacksaw. We all sat at watched him do it and mercilessly mocked him when it didn't work.
