They've had their moments, but none of it really stands up to any analysis.
TD should know better than to be surprised when they release something half-arsed.

Although this one was produced by David Holmes who is rather better than Bobby Gillespie in knowing good stuff.

They're cherry pickers.
Whether that's styles or band members. It's kind of like good sampling, taking the best bits of genres and bands. They're also very very good live and are just a rock n' roll band.

Patchy as hell though, don't get me wrong, for every sheer gem like Kill All Hippies, there's a piece of shit like Funky Jam.

I can see why Weatherall digs them so much, it's that whole wearing your influences on your sleeve thing. Also, Weatherall is rarely wrong.

Primal Scream are only ever as good as their producer.
Hence why 'Screamadelica' was great. but 'Give But Don't Give In' was fucking dreadful, say.
