That always seem very shit
when people have paid taxes etc. for years and are told you cant have any of the money as your household income is too high.

Not so much the household income
as the fact I haven't paid enough NI since April 2012 when I started working again after 10 months out of work. It sucks donkey balls though. And the wife's hours have been cut from 25 pw to 15 as of September.
