i think new shitholes are more depressing than old shitholesbecause if you go somewhere shit that still has lovely old buildings underneath the shit, you can clean them up. whereas places like welwyn garden city and MK are just depressing square "architecture" like kids make out of lego.

This. New towns are a monument to the idea that you can plan and micromanage peoples lives. They don't have the soul that comes from the organic growth of a place. They are somewhere to live that has no life of its own .
