Or maybe they could be a way of shared folders within a network
so you could copy to a special shared folder and it would appear on both compters

I have that already on our network
However, for reasons best known to our IT staff, you can only access it as a live folder on a machine running Win XP.

This rather fucks up my "generally using a mac and, if not, at least wanting an operating system that can run a web browser that isn't out of date" plans.
