Sorry to hear thatEdmund does make a good point, if the references he gives are incorrect then you may be able to sue for negligent misstatement or in the Tort of Deceit if it's intentional.
You'd probably be best consulting with a real lawyer, I'm only about to start my LPC but it does sound like you've been really affected by his actions.
