Day Gone to Ratshit
Just been informed that not only am I out of a job (again) but I've been blacklisted throughout the industry due to one weasel-like twat of the first order so I'm terminally fucked.

Please someone say they had a nice day and I'll put the Beretta down.

I'm a nice bloke - why does this shit keep happening to me?

what the hell
did he do/say?
(, Wed 13 Aug 2008, 22:05, Reply)
.
Is there a good reason for being blacklisted or is this twat just being a cunt with a chip on his shoulder? In the latter case, you should consider suing him.

Can't
All they have to say is 'I do not recommend' and you're fucked.

2/3 years on and I'm still getting fucked by the weasel.

That's fuckin' rubbish
I'm really sorry to hear it.
Going against my own "not posting pictures" rule, here's an old friend:

But as I said, *manhugs* to you.

Jeez osok
I'm sorry to read that. What has the guy done?

Its not much consolation, but sometimes you meet arseholes in the workplace who have no purpose in life but to be arseholes.

Sounds to me...
...like some cunting in the fuck is required.

B3tan's - saddle up. We're going cunting....

Oh my. That doesn't sounds good at all now, does it

I bought my car from Inchcape
I'll take it back and call them all cunts if it helps.
(, Wed 13 Aug 2008, 23:39, Reply)
fothermucker!
If there's no basis to his actions (ie, they're malicious) it might be worthwhile taking to rswipe when she's back.

Alternatively, can you get a reference from someone else @ Inchcape?

Edit: I've IM'd you.

@osok
Never forget that you're sound and he's a geebag. We Irish have not only the best compliments but the best insults. I grant you honorary Irishman status for the day.

That help any?

Surely you can't be blacklisted because of one person.
That would leave the industry open to all sorts of backstabbing shennanigans.

Or am I being completely naive here.

Sorry to hear that
Edmund does make a good point, if the references he gives are incorrect then you may be able to sue for negligent misstatement or in the Tort of Deceit if it's intentional.
You'd probably be best consulting with a real lawyer, I'm only about to start my LPC but it does sound like you've been really affected by his actions.

*hugs*
Do you not know anyone in the industry who would stand in your corner and say the other bloke is a total crapweasel and you deserve a chance?

If not I am going in the suing camp! Or we can chase him out the town with torches and pitchforks...
(, Thu 14 Aug 2008, 10:14, Reply)
Oh no.
That's crap.

I agree with everything that's already been said and I'll add to it...

Is it possible to take this opportunity to move sideways into a different industry? I'm guessing that you have transferable skills, so maybe you could change the type of thing you've been doing.

May not be possible...but it may also be worth thinking about.

*Hugs*

That sucks
really, really sucks.

I'm in the "sue the arse off the bastard camp" or failing that, the "cunt him in the fuck" camp. Whichever.....

Maybe even the threat of a lawsuit (and resulting publicity) would be enough to stop him?

On a wholely more practical basis than my earlier reply
From what Osok's said, my impression is that the damage has been done. I suspect that his specialism within the industry is, well, rather specialised and that everyone knows each other.

I think there are two aspects of this. One is look at where to go from here. If the damage has been done, then mud tends to stick (whether true or not) and it's probably time to move on and try something new. There's likely to be a financial impact, it'll be tough - but if the other option is trying to battle through the storm with no forseeable upside, it may be the best option.

The second part is to address the damage done by Mr. Deleted Name of Deleted PLC (I remember the actuals, but since it's been edited, let's go with this).
I'm making no judgements on the value of either side's story here, but if Mr Name has made malicious or misleading statements to other key people in the industry, then I believe that he has opened himself or his employer up to potential action.
So, have a think about what this has cost you - salary, bonuses, potential contract work, stress and anxiety, future earning, etc.? What evidence exists? Specifically, do you have any documentary evidence, has someone written this in an e-mail? Do you have any prior records (including thing such as references, performance appraisals, quotas and target achievements, etc.) which could be used to support a case? Would anybody be willing to support you if they were asked? Could any statements be made confidentially?
Gather as much information as you can and discuss with a lawyer - ideally someone who will work on a contingency basis, and who might be willing to consider taking this up ideally against the PLC.
If you take it up against the individual, it might be more satisfying, but ultimately will have a lesser impact. If you take it up against the company, then it's likely to be taken much more seriously, and may well have a more significant impact on Mr Name in the longer term.

For all the above, I am not a lawyer - but I know enough about keeping my mouth shut in certain circumstances so as not to get sued.

Whatever happens - good luck Osok, and while firearms may be fun, they're not (always) the best answer...

Thanks Y'All
To summarise in a sober and efficient manner...

nothing written or recorded. It's a case of Chinese Whispers - if I am being considered for a job, they don't bother with the referees on my CV (i.e. the good ones), they'll just pick up the phone and call someone. "Hi Bob, do you remember so-and-so? Worked for you a while back? Oh, a tosser is he? Righty-ho, thats binned. Cheers Bob". Nothing recorded, actionable, or doable- you're simply not called to the interview.

However, on the bright side, I am effectively blocked from working for one particular part of the biz, but an agency called me today and asked nicely if they can put my name forward for a job, so we'll see what happens. I may even completely change what is laughingly called career path... who knows?

So, I'm happily going through boxes of old photos ready for scanning and wincing at my earlier taste in clothes (and the fact that I was considerably slimmer in those days), I'll even choose a particularly unflattering one for a profile pic if I can be bothered. I've been teaching my 4 year old basketball in the park in the sun, and later I'll finish yesterday's chilli that always tastes better on day 2, drink a flagon of wine, and start again tomorrow.

Remember folks, don't let the bastards grind you down.

If they DO grind you down, just make sure you have their home addresses and copies of all relevant paperwork... and the fact that someone who gets their jollies from giving bad reports about someone they haven't seen for 2 1/2 years, probably has exceptionally small genitals and 'his' kids look like the bloke at the gym.

Peace*

*through superior firepower if required.
