Open plan offices are terrible. Thankfully I haven't had to work in one for years. Own office: fart when you want, have music on without having to wear headphones, close the door when you want peace & quiet, avoid people eating stinky food at their desk, avoid banal conversations about last night's soap operas etc.
Much better.
