Heh heh heh.
So as I've said many times before, I'm divorced and have three teens, the youngest of whom is my 15 year old daughter.

This summer when she came home from a summer with my sisters and my parents up north, she expressed a desire to me to get her lower lip pierced.

I thought about this for a few minutes. If she had it done she could late remove it, and all that would be there was a small hole where it had been- overall, not a big deal. "Okay, I'm good with that. We'll find out if it's legal to be done, though."

Turns out that though it's not against the law, most places won't do it if you're under 15, even if your dad is standing right there. However, the place where I got my tattoo done has a woman who will do it, once she's had a chance to talk to the kid first. As I know this shop and know that they run a VERY clean place (they showed me their autoclave, and use disposable packaged equipment when they can), I was comfortable with them doing it. "But discuss this with your mom first, okay? I don't want her screeching over the phone at me."

Nurse Ratched was against it, of course.

Mini-Me was quite unhappy over this, especially when I told her that I wasn't going to override her mother's wishes- I was being respectful.

Her mother's response to this? "He's just using me as an excuse to say no."

Passive aggression, anyone?

So Mini-Me and I have just gotten back. She had Angelina Jolie's lower lip now, but she's very happy despite the pain.

I'm awaiting the Brown Noise that I'm sure will be audible from miles away.

Heh heh
You're damned if you do and damned if you don't. On the upside you have a happy kid and at least the ex can't divorce you :)

@ The Loon
I've got mine done and I love it!

I'm all in favour of pissing off ex-wives. Got one myself, but haven't seen her for 5 years.

Lo all
@BK You're damned lucky, I take it there are no kids involved with yours then?

My ex is demented AND evil. In the bad way.

@ Bert
No kids, she has a 6 year old with the bloke she left me for. Don't really have any ill will towards her now. Water under the bridge and all that

@BGB
The best saying ever is, 'Your not as green as you're cabbage looking'.
But this has no relevance to the topic under discussion

She's quite excited.
After all, it's not like a tattoo- if she doesn't like it later, it won't show if she removes the ring. But for you she'll be one of three girls in her entire school with one, and the only one in her grade. It will give her major cool points.

Pure win, I'd say!

@TRL
That's the kind of parenting I hope to achieve. Serious credit to you.

Loon,
I was just thinking about it, and I don't know of any parent in the US who would allow their (15yr old) daughter to do that.

Kudos to you for treating her like the woman she will be and not a kid :)

congratulations!
in my humble opinion, a lip piercing is one of the best to get. They heal relatively easily, and they look great! I still have mine from years ago, and love it. The fact that I can squirt fluid through it is by the by!

UPDATE!
Woohoo, Nurse Ratched is apparently going off over there! She just left me a voicemail (which I refuse to listen to), and Mini-Me says she's really furious.

Yay! *evil chortle*

Seriously, though, I do treat Mini-Me as an equal most of the time- she has wisdom and judgment far beyond her years. So I have no issues at all with her wanting a piercing.

To her mother, though, she's still the little blonde with the bear she lugged everywhere...

'Twas her choice.
She decided that she wanted it and where it should be. I was just along to hold her hand and sign forms.

Every time I see one of those ones that's way off in an upper lip or a cheek it creeps me out.

Then again, the lower lip ring still looks to me like she had a fishing accident...
