We have a friend that just happens to be a Jewish American from New York. A slightly crap Jew, admittedly, since she eats bacon and pork, celebrates Christmas and believes in an afterlife, but Jewish nonetheless.
A while back now, myself, the Sweary One, and our friend went out for a meal, rounded off with a couple of quiet drinks in one of our favoured locals. Once we entered the pub, it quickly became apparent from the conversation going on amongst a large group of middle aged women that they had all been to the ‘Singalonga Sound of Music’ screening at a cinema in town. This was further evidenced by them bursting into random renditions of ‘Do Re Me’ and ‘Favourite Things’ amongst others as the evening wore on.
However, on opening the door to the pub they were in full swing with ‘So Long, Farewell’, and we entered just as they got to the bit in the song that goes ‘Adieu, adieu’… which, when sang in a northern brogue accompanied by a few too many white wines sounds exactly like, ‘A Jew, a Jew’…
Completely random but creased me up at the time.

Speaking of jews.......
Is it socially acceptable to dress up in fancy dress as Hitler or general nazis? I have a birthday fancy dress party coming up with a theme of armed forces. Thought a nazi outfit would raise a laugh (or some tears).....
P.s. there are absolutely no jews around this area of the country...

Have you tried asking Prince Harry?
Actually my Dad went to a fancy dress party. The theme was Second World War officers.
He went dressed in a rag, with a shaved head, as a prisoner of war.
Warped sense of humour, my Dad...

Once went to a fancy dress party dressed as an Islamic terrorist, with full head-dress, combat gear and massive plastic gun. It was a very liberal party - bassically an illegal rave in a swingers club with drugs a-go-go - but a few people had words and I decided to remove the head-dress, don aviators and become a colombian drug baron, which apparently was much more acceptable. People do take offense to controversial political outfits.
