but I'm still being invited to loads of groups and causes on Facebook about it. What can I reply to these people about it, without getting myself lynched?

That it's possible to be morally outraged without joining a sanctimonious, reactionary, jumped-up soapbox-bandwagon to publicly display your outrage a la The Daily Mail.
