It's like Christmas in WW1
We have ardent anti-talkers going there and having an unexpectedly nice reception. Even (whispers his name) JMG was pleasant and courteous to me.

We have /talkers coming here and enjoying the nice, fluffy vibes at Off Topic. Hopefully they feel very welcome too.

Perhaps some of the chap contingent of both sides would like a friendly game of football?

Are you after some silk-stockings?
Or maybe some of their Hershey bars?

Wrong war chickenlady - that was American GI soldiers in WWII
I think Gloria is referring to the incident in 1915 when German and British troops exchanged gifts, sang hymns and played football in no mans land.

It was the subject of a particularly piss poor christmassy song around 1980. I don't know who did it, I can only assume they died.

Now Ms chickenlady, about those silk stockings...

mmm stockings...
I got given a very tacky pair for christmas. But they're deliberately tacky, so that's ok I think...

Hmmmmm Stockings!

Somehow I don't think my current squeeze will wear them for me.

From the outside
this thread had nothing to do with stockings. Now my interest is piqued.

I must know more :)

Don't you just love how threads start off on one subject.
Then within two replies, ends up flowing about a totally different subject that captures peoples attention.

Woo! ancrenne. *waves*

Bye sweetie.
Being hit flirtatiously with a pillow is one of my favourite things.

Being hit flirtatiously with a pillow by an American is one of my second favorite things.

Ahem, PJM
I know very well that it was GIs in WW2 that gave away silk stockings and Hershey bars - amongst my degrees I happen to have one marked History. However, I was suggesting this rather than to bring up the nasty subject of collaboration....Added to which MsHull (bless her) didn't notice, so that would suggest that perhaps she isn't quite so pedantic as your good self...

Now get back to work and stop playing on b3ta so that you'll be able to finish early and meet me at the tube station.

;)

Ah, too subtle for me
I did forget that amongst your considerable collection of degrees you have one for American history.

Ms Hull does indeed seem to be dallying with /talk. Good for her, far be it from me to suggest we tie her to a chair and publically shave her head (only joking Gloria!).

Rather than Hershey Bars and silk stockings, is she enjoying sauerkraut and schnitzel with her bully beef?
