Amsterdam
I'm taking Ms Hanky for a romantic week in Amsterdam for Valentines Day.

I'm hoping to get down to some depraved sexual acts involving animals and cashew nuts, but between doing that does anyone have any suggestions on good places to go / stuff to do in this fine, Dutch city???

thanks
Spanky

I suggest getting really stoned
but then, I'd suggest that if you weren't going to Amsterdam....

If you fancy the Van Gogh museum ...
Go early to get tickets (or check if you can get them the day before). It gets very busy.
Hire a bicycle and ride around everywhere - much better than walking.
The heineken beer museum is worth a visit - if you like beer.
Live Sex shows are about €40 + each and are a complete and utter waste of money - avoid.

Boom Chicago
safe link to their website: www.boomchicago.nl/en/

Also, it's just round the corner from a strip club. But isn't that true of everywhere in Amsterdam.

Word of advice: Don't smoke anything given to you by a stranger on the street. If you do, you may end up giving them your shoes.

I speak from experience.

also
The vondelpark is a nice park for wandering in during the day, but might be a bit cold in Feb. If you do like a bit of a smoke then be warned that the weed there is very very potent. Try the smallest joint possible to see how you go. Greening out in the Dam is not cool or clever.

There's a lovely, lovely pub
On a sort of square opposite the Steinway piano shop. Beautiful beers. Obviously there are many lovely pubs in Amsterdam, but that one was so very good that I've been back 3 times.

Also: Anne Frank museum: depressing, but v interesting.
And you could get a boat tour of the canals.

Also, there's a great little coffee-shop on the Prinsengracht called La Tertulia: Prinsengracht 312
1016 HX Amsterdam
It's tiny, is supposed to open from 11am-7pm Tues-Sat, but sometimes shuts earlier. You can sit outside on the banks of the canal, and they do brilliant milkshakes.

What are you on about wanksock?
The preferred approach is to go to the first coffee shop you see and buy some of the last cannabis cup winning skunk, then roll the biggest joint you possibly can...!

Second the vote for the Anne Frank museum, it's very moving.

Then go to the Heineken museum and get pissed to forget the depressing morning you've had.

Despite having been to the Dam four or five times I can't remember the names of any of the good coffee shops, due to their excellent wares...

Say hi to Steadroy for me if you run across him.

@Empress
I went to Anne Frank's house.

She wasn't in though.

potency
I didn't tend to find the stuff over there that much stronger than we get over here....

Erm...
I forgot what what I was going to say but think it was something along the lines of Vipros response.

Walk
just walk - it's full of lovely old-stuff-ness.

One of my favourite cities to walk around.

Try not to be scoobied by peoples living rooms having no curtains and being on display - it's weird but you musn't stare.

Agreed V
There's nothing special about the weed in Amsterdam, unless you only know shit dealers over here!

It's just properly grown, dried and cured hydroponic skunk. Which is fairly easily available in this country if you know where to get it.

I do like being able to kick back with a beer
and smoke a jay in a cafe though.

it's ace.

Smoking aside though. I love Amsterdam. I could happily walk along by the canals, narrowly avoiding being hit by bicycles with every step, all day.

My main word of advice: everything travels at the same speed there. Bikes, cars, trams you name it. That speed is: fast enough to hurt you. Pay close attention to what you are doing when on the streets.

@ son of sam
What are you on about? Its not just skunk theres loads of other stuff there. Durban poison is my personal best, but its not easy to find.

Also weird laws there now. You can't smoke tobacco inside cos its banned, but you can have a joint. Go figure.

I'd include
Ms Hanky in your sexual plans too.
