He's died today, aged 60.
Who else is going to go home and listen to Solid Air?

I am.
The man was a legend.
I was lucky enough to see him live in Wexford a few years back.
Got his autograph.
Shook his hand.
Took a photo.
Heard a few incoherent words pass his glorious wounded lips.

gave me Solid Air, right before he buggered off again.
I listened to it and I was totally bemused. It's just some bloke with an acoustic guitar mumbling.
So I sold it on Amazon and I've been happy ever since.

Cracked open a bottle.
RIP JM
When he signed my CD, he wrote, "JM woz ere".

sad that he's died, because he seemed quite talented.
I just don't 'get' Solid Air at all though. I've tried it many times, and it just completely fails to press my buttons.

I'm not saying that anybody else's opinion is wrong, I just don't see the appeal of the dead, alcoholic scotsman.

I'm against the whole 'my taste', 'your taste' argument.
JM was a talented man.
He died today.
For those who loved his music, today is a sad day.
I met him once very briefly after a gig.
His music has had meaning to me for a long time.
I felt a genuine shock of remorse when I read Sam's post.
I dont normally give a fuck about anyone.
Today is significant.

But you're sniping on a thread that was meant to be devoted to the guy.
Any chance your dancing outside a funeral parlour in Kilkenny?

I feel as though I've been disrespectful now.
*puts willy away*
*smiles*
*bares his apparently fine arse*
Sorry Mr Martyn, RIP.

"Was aggreived to hear of John Martyn's death today. Had a weird dream involving his albums a couple of days ago and now I hear he's dead. Emailing you since I remember you enjoy his stuff. Hope I've got the address right - remember seeing you log into hotmail with it.
If you get this in time for midnight then raise a glass to John Martyn, dead at 60, probably from the fucking booze.."
RIP

I supped some nice Scotch last night and listened to a few of his albums (on vinyl, of course)
As baz said, 99% of 'celebrity' deaths don't bother me at all, but this one gave me that funny feeling in my chest you get when someone you (feel like you) know dies.
Was lucky enough to see him myself in Liverpool a couple of years ago, truly amazing performance.
RIP John.

a very talented man. I can understand why Solid Air might not appeal to people, but that song does amazing things to my brain.
