Can anyone remember a tv show
it was comedy sketches, I think done by a group of Canadians.

The only one I can really remember was a in the form of a science lecture where they got suggestions from the audience for things they should prove using comedy.

They had to prove that Shakespeare was a penguin called Robert.

I remember this but not the name of the show.
Sorry!

I don't think it was Kids in the Hall
it was very similar though.

Wikipedia has a page of Canadian sketch comedy shows. Could it have been Four on the Floor?

much more recent than that
I'd say around 1996

Mr Show with Bob and David?
Your example sounds absurd enough for them.

the kids in the hall was more about...
"i'm crushing your head!"

I'm pinching your head!
I showed my daughter that a couple of weeks ago - she loved it!

Kids in the hall!
I loved that!

Was just trying to explain to someone about the crushy head man and the day he met the squeezy head man and had The Showdown.

Couldn't remember the show! Cheers.

was it
Was it "You can't do that on television" I think Alanis Morrissette was in it as a kid.

hmm, don't think so
I vaguely remember one other guy at school watching it, and he's the sort of weirdo who would remember if I hunted him down and asked him out of the blue.
