Guitar HeroIn my opinion rock band has better songs but guitar hero definitely has better kit.
I work for GAME, and we have had many many MANY sets of the rock band instruments brought back as faulty.
As for the compatibility with the other one, alas on the Wii you are well and truly fucked, but on the 360 or the ps3 they are fully inter compatible.
