The two of them immediately jumped onto their high horses, got extremely personal about things they know nothing about and I retaliated. Taking the internet too seriously.

I have serious problems with this phrase. If you're talking to someone you've met, or have spoken to enough to know fairly well, then deliberately upsetting them or pissing them off is not them "taking the internet too seriously", it's you "being a complete cunt".
