It's silly, but I'm spotting the tend
With remakes of old TV series they go and visit ideas that sound cool at first, but can never really be done again. They tend to destroy some of the mystery surrounding the old character and are eventually going to run the whole thing in to the ground.

Therefore, with this dodgy reasoning, it's wank.

I like the fact they've taken a break
because, having recently watched them all again on BBC3, they were starting to become a bit jaded and cliche already.
