It's silly, but I'm spotting the tend
With remakes of old TV series they go and visit ideas that sound cool at first, but can never really be done again. They tend to destroy some of the mystery surrounding the old character and are eventually going to run the whole thing in to the ground.

Therefore, with this dodgy reasoning, it's wank.

That was acceptable
based on the fact the the 1st Dr used to travel with his Granddaughter, but bringing his mother in to the fray seems a bit silly to me.
