Had a corking idea this morning
Musical cat collars...instead of having bells on them, a chip that motion detects and every time the cat moves, plays a couple of bars of a tune. So far, good tunes would be the "der-der" of Billie Jean, the "der-der-der-der" of the Pink Panther, maybe even the "der-der-der" of the Stripper - any other tunes you guys can think of ?

Made me smile to think of a cat walking along to the sound of Billie Jean, I must say.

So, what do you think - top idea or complete madness ?

And no, I haven't Googled yet to see if it exists already...

How about
every time the cat moves instead of getting a musical number it gets a fairly severe electric shock?

TGB
I'm liking that.

Millie got a scratch (not deep) on her nose yesterday because she went over to investigate a cat that was sitting on a wall.

And now millie has learned
Not to mess with cats.
(, Tue 26 May 2009, 9:59, Reply)
She wasn't messing, that's the point
All she was doing was to go over and say hello, tail wagging etc.

Poor Millie. :(

(Also: poor bloody cat if I get my hands on it :()

Bearing in mind her size comparable to a cats
No wonder the cat didn't like her.
(, Tue 26 May 2009, 10:05, Reply)
True, good point.
But the cat didn't leg it when Millie approached, which I found surprising (and Millie didn't bound over as she normally does).
(, Tue 26 May 2009, 10:14, Reply)
Why should it? She was there first

(, Tue 26 May 2009, 10:25, Reply)
True, but I think Millie
was just investigating (she's fascinated by cats and has never chased one as long as she's been with me)

Cat doesn't know that
To her it's like Godzilla coming up to you and baring teeth while grinning and waving his rump around
(, Tue 26 May 2009, 10:33, Reply)
Her rump :)
But I take the point. I guess if one was approached even slowly by a smiling, lolloping human who wanted to say hello one would be a little cautious.

Attack first, questions later
good motto to live by.

Pah!
I've decided that the moral high ground is a good place to be - especially if one wants to be able to deploy heavy artillery.

Could you make it detect when the cat is stalking something
and play the derrrrr-dun derrrr-dun from Jaws? That would be awesome.
(, Tue 26 May 2009, 10:16, Reply)
You might
be able to do that based on the movement in the cats muscles? e.g., if the cat was doing its creeping-along-the-floor thing ...
(, Tue 26 May 2009, 10:23, Reply)
Great idea.
But what about, instead of music, you could have a voice that is imitating the cat's thinking processes, e.g.

"Hmmm lovely lovely offal nyomnyomnyomnyom"

"I am a tiger stalking my preyyyyy here I goooooooo...oh it's gone I was just washing myself."
