I've got a weekend in Switzerland
and a 10 day trip to visit friends in the US (almost) planned.

And it's nice and sunny here today too.

I feel your pain, Psyche. I'd hate not to be going away. I love travelling.

However, it has its environmental downside. I did the carbon footprint calculation on the direct.gov website. Mine is about 5 times the average UK citizen's...

I wouldn't mind not going away
If I were promised sunshine here instead...

But it would seem that my wishes are not always given the respect that I'd like for them. Stupid weather gods.

The last year
when I didn't have a proper holiday, was 1994. Since then they've been getting more frequent and further away. It's not just the weather, although that helps. And it's not for physical relaxation. I spend more time tramping around the place on holiday than I do at home.

It's just the break from normal daily routine that I like most. And the geographical separation from home, for a couple of weeks.

Actually, that's a point.
The last time I had a "proper" holiday was in 2007; before that it was 2002.
