tell me about your holiday plans so I can daydream my way out of this office.
Thank you.

Go to Sweden, fetch girlfriend, come back to UK, work three days, both of us go to france with parents for a couple of days, come back here, get stuff ready for festival, see Bill Bailey in Oxford, go to Bloodstock Open Air, backt o my house, next day back to sweden, then sleep for five days to recover.
Easy, really.

and a 10 day trip to visit friends in the US (almost) planned.
And it's nice and sunny here today too.
I feel your pain, Psyche. I'd hate not to be going away. I love travelling.
However, it has its environmental downside. I did the carbon footprint calculation on the direct.gov website. Mine is about 5 times the average UK citizen's...

If I were promised sunshine here instead...
But it would seem that my wishes are not always given the respect that I'd like for them. Stupid weather gods.

when I didn't have a proper holiday, was 1994. Since then they've been getting more frequent and further away. It's not just the weather, although that helps. And it's not for physical relaxation. I spend more time tramping around the place on holiday than I do at home.
It's just the break from normal daily routine that I like most. And the geographical separation from home, for a couple of weeks.

The last time I had a "proper" holiday was in 2007; before that it was 2002.

One way ticket to Qaanaaq, Greenland via Copenhagen (bought already - December 7th, here we come); once there walk from Kap Alexandr to Craig Harbour, across Smith Sound initially and then south through Ellesmere Island. Once at Craig Harbour, walk ~122km to Grise Fiord for flight on Kenn Borek Air to Resolute, Resolute to Iqaluit, Iqaluit to Ottawa, Ottawa to UK (late January 2010).
February 2010: Auction gear on eBay to raise money for Combat Stress.
March 2010: Try to find something else interesting to do.
EDIT: if anyone's up for it, they're welcome to join me.

Hard, but looks like you'll have a fun (not really the right word though!) time.

It should be cool. I've done a few trips before but in the interests of not raising my head above the parapet I'm not doing the trip for charity I'm just selling the gear afterwards and the sums raised will go to the charitable concern.
If you have a look at my blog (mentalhealthisoverrated.blogspot.com) you'll see some of the prep I've been doing to date :)

If ever I have the time and money to cross the Atlantic without flying, Greenland is definitely going to be one of my stops.
( , Wed 27 May 2009, 9:29, Reply)

but it still involves a fair bit of flying :(

And you can study the effects of inbreeding in depth as well.

Unless my infrequent trips to London bashes counts. *cries* Oh and I'm going to the Isle of Wight for 5 days in August *cries more*

Not the inbreds. B3tans in London, and car owners in the Isle of Wight.
Just be thankful that it's a few weeks after I go.

Off home to Blighty next week for a bit of relaxing and mother's cooking and then off to Dominican Republic in a few weeks! Yippeee....

and if he does, I might be joining him. If not, may go somewhere in Europe, or if my friend who's getting married decides to have an extended stag-do, may go on a walking trip somewhere in the UK. Or I may just skip a holiday this summer and just use my holiday allowance for long weekends.

She is from there originally, but now she sounds like a Northerner, having lived here since she was 9.
