that's a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Fun is good, misery is bad. You're at the age, dare I say it, when you should know yourself, give yourself freedom to do what you want as long as it doesn't hurt others. Given what's happened in your personal life recently, that gives you the freedom to avoid family obligations - tell them you need "me" time - and go out and have fun.

Go and enjoy the bash and have casual sex / get very very drunk / whatever.

Or go to the beach somewhere, skim stones and eat chocolate.

But fuck being miserable - what does it get you ?
