As I've mentioned before, I get email that should be going to some actor guy (we have similar email addresses) I get some fairly juicy stuff, Dr Who's phone number that sort of thing. Nothing that isnt the norm if youre "in the biz" but probably not for the likes of us muggles.
Is there any legal problems with seeing someone elses email? What if he decides to take action, about me 'reading his mail' when it was sent to me? I usually dont know if its for him or me until i read it. I normally just forward it on to him. He never acknowledges it or anything.
Today i've recieved an invoice for him for something that probably isnt something that should be seen by others. I could have some fun, but I wont. I'm a nice person. Do i need to cover my arse?

some tossers are sending mail to the wrong person it's not your fault if you open it.
if you get threatened with legal action then take it to the papers. they'll soon fuck off.

which states that if sent to you in error, it should be reported back to them immediately. This kind of helps nips things in the bud should a problem arise later. If you respond quickly enough, they don't think you've been holding out on them should something happen further down the line. In doing this, you can also give them the guys real email address.
As long as you don't publish or reproduce the email for public view or profit, you're safe otherwise.

You make the senders aware of their error at the earliest opportunity? If not, do so now and offer to destroy the materials sent to you in error.
In doing so you maintain your position on the moral high ground and thus absolve yourself from future criticism.

If some fool addresses his email incorrectly, that's his problem, not yours. While it might be polite to let them know, you're equally at liberty to throw the mail away and ignore the problem. Anything about "if you receive this email in error, you must " can be ignored, too - no-one can oblige you to do something simply by sending you an email.
