If the site is going to be used for any
sort of content that might get one work, demonstrate skillz etc then paying £50 / year for reliable, good hosting is hardly a big sacrifice.

FastHosts are shit - read "The Register" if you don't believe me.

It amazes me that people aren't prepared to pay a small amount of money for what is basically their shop window to the world.

None of this applies if it's "personal project" type of stuff of course, but anything that might generate income deserves hosting that is more reliable than FastHosts or any other such budget providers...

The stuff I have
is charity stuff and a web site for a friend who has no money, hence budget needs. I'd host it at work but it would probably breach the JANET Acceptable Use Policy.

Chickenlady's stuff, however, might be fine for that. Do you have any web space at the Uni, chickenlady?

If you have charity stuff
I am happy to host it, depending on how much space it takes up.

oh that's cool, thanks, that's a lovely offer.
It's not very big. It's an old site, the event has passed, but we wanted to keep the site live as a record of it.

I'm going to have a look around for space today as I have other stuff to move. I'll see how I get on.

I'm not sure how much longer I'll have a job there :(
I was told a couple of months back that they wanted me to teach more classes and then last week the news came through about heavy cuts.

I'm hoping I'll still be teaching two classes but that could be it :(

More reason to sort out a webpage and raise my profile.

I think you might have a point here
I'm also coming around to the view that if I spend some money on it then I'll feel duty bound to keep it up and actually use it instead of it just sitting there like a damp pudding.

I see it in the same light as fat people and Weightwatchers - you're duty bound to diet because you're paying ££ each week to be mocked.
