As far as I know they don't do a fixed-number-journeys travelcard, just fixed-time-period ones.
1-3 costs just under £30 a week if I remember right, so if all you're going to use is 8 single journeys it won't save you any cash - an Oyster single in the rush hour should be about £2.80. If you're going places on the other days, with the odd bus journey or stop off elsewhere, then it might be worth you getting one.

It includes the overground too which is quite nice
as I live in zone 3 and work in the opposite zone 3, so I'd be paying out a lot more for singles past the tube bit. In that sense it's worth it, but irritating all the same as it would be £9 a day otherwise.
