What do you do when you walk down the alleys of Ashington late at night, on your own and hearing strange echoey footsteps slowly catching up with you and the heavy breathing getting closer and the smell, Oh God! The smell! WHAT DO YOU DO IF YOU CAN'T WHISTLE?

whistling is good for being much more annoying than humming
and calling dogs

also, i used to work in an environment where a particular whistle could alert a colleague much more effectively than shouting 'OI! CHRIS!' across the crowded room.
