I had to have a passport one done the other day
to renew my driving licence. came out ok which was a surprise, but my old one was the worst photo of anyone ever taken. didn't even look like me 10 years ago. let alone now.

My passport photo is abysmal
I had to have it done in a rush when I lost my passport a couple of days before I was due to fly - I have since had my hair cut and have grown a beard. it plays merry hell with the automatic face recognition machines at Stansted.
