They call him it in the film.
A lot of people who see the film aren't gonna be comic-readers.
As far as they're concerned the character is called Deadpool.
It might not be the SAME Deadpool as in the comics, but it really doesn't matter.

Even the credits show him as Weapon XI. It's true that Wade Wilson does become Deadpool in the comics, but they amalgamated two characters into one, which became XI.
