how can I stop myself from looking at a website?
I fucking hate reading FML, it drives me insane and I end up arguing with stupid people about stupid things, and yet I can't stop myself from doing it...

edit: points to Al for a sensible solution that worked.

I was looking for something more technology based however

pull the F M and L keys out of your keyboard,
Then delete your browser history.

still not quite what I was after though

There is an add on for firefox
which blocks sites during certain time periods. Obviously you set the password, but you could randomly generate some text and numbers and use it as the password and then the only way to get around it would be uninstalling the add on.

that's a much better idea

Do you work for Firefox?
You're like the firefox champ.

Ad this to your hosts file:
127.0.0.1 {tab} www.fmylife.com
Where {tab} is an actual tab space

Assuming you are using windows the hosts file should be stored in
C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\

You'll need to be logged in as an administrator and remove the Read Only attribute before it'll save.

tried that and it didn't seem to work
think it must be to do with the network somehow
(, Wed 15 Jul 2009, 10:55, Reply)
It might need a reboot after to make it work
failing that
Start - Run
cmd
in the black box type:
ipconfig /flushdns
then give it a go.

I will try that too
thanks

Another thought:
FML offer an RSS feed of the new entries so by subscribing to that you'll still get to read them but dont have easy access to the comments. You'll get your fix without exposure to the idiots.

I know I'm being dense
But what is FML?
(, Wed 15 Jul 2009, 11:42, Reply)
FML is fmylife.com
It is an user generated content site that serves as "a recollection of everyday anecdotes likely to happen to anyone." Posts on the site are short, user-submitted stories of unfortunate happenings that begin with "Today" and end with "FML," an acronym short for "fuck my life."

I didn't copy and paste the above from wikipedia, honest. ;-)

mylifeisaverage.com/ is much funnier for the most part, as a pisstake version with normal things happening instead of bad things
