Of course they aren'tbut there are ways of producing electricity that are orders of magnitude more environmentally friendly than others.
The fact is we are going to get lumbered with coal power stations, which have a life of say 50 years, due to pretending there wasn't a problem with our power generation for decades until at the last minute we don't actually have a choice but to plump for something we've done before.
Just because it's easy to build, doesn't make it the best choice.
