Just got home
Very pissed, thank you, after watching superb cricket in the boozer.

Have poured myself another glass but not sure I can physically drink any more. The glass and I are glaring at each other malevolently.

Onions and Anderson. Graham and Jimmy. 77 runs, 7 wickets, one session.

Any other gods pale into insignificance.

Now - for next week let's loose the fop and bring on the Harmison because I'll be there, in the West Stand, for all five days and taking the Ashes back at Headingley will make my life complete.

Steve Harmison
Is a nice bloke. He was in one of our local clubs a couple of years ago buying everyone drinks. Hasn't forgotten his roots at all. Much like Sir Bobby, R.I.P.

Never been interested in football at all
But Bobby Robson always seemed like a nice feller - probably, in my eyes, because he had sufficient intelligence and humility to understand that football was just a part of life and that the world didn't revolve around him.

For iconoclasts like me I'd rather have had him as a doyen of English football than a swaggering, spitting, semi-articulate foreigner. For the purposes of this arguement Scotland constitutes foreign.

He was
I saw him outside St James' Park once. A wee kid rushed up to him, asked him for his autograph and he duly obliged, signed his bus ticket, ruffled his hair and sent him on his way, grinning all the while.

Decent bloke, grounded, and thoroughly canny. Not many left like him.
