It's like an imbreed instriment, it's to expensive to "have a little go, see if you like it", so nobody knows anyone who plays it. It takes dedication rather than one of those "If you can play this, you can play that" type instriments too.
I'ld love to learn but don't have the £8k or soo it would cost to buy one.
It must be a fucker to tune too.

and my understanding is that she got into it because her father was director of music for the bbc and as such had a lot of instruments "knocking about".
she studied cello at oxford or some such as well.
